Programme notes: | Just two tones form the basis of this piece, these two influence, develop and spread into 'The Pervasive Force'!
Written as a salute to the tenor saxophone the work is built around the interval between F# and Ab exploring different uses of the material while demonstrating the full and rich tone of the tenor. |
Performance notes: | The first half requires a fluid and good understanding of phrasing. B is intended as a tenor cadenza-like section as the saxophonist plays around with the phrasing. C onwards is quite the opposite and should focus on driving rhythms and tempo.
The Pervasive Force was premiered by Matt London (saxophone) and David Howard (piano) at St Leonards Auditorium, St Andrews as part of the World Saxophone Congress XVI in July 2012. |
