I. Mirror Talk II. Image III. The Looking Glass IV. Speculum
This work was written especially for virtuoso pianist Murray McLachlan and Smith himself, making formidable demands of both players. Smith classifies the roles of this duet as being equal: the pianist is not only an accompanist but a soloist too. The idea for Hall Of Mirrors originates from the renowned Satieism “Wonder about yourself”. This powerful thought, it is hoped, will motivate the musicians to convey their innermost emotions to the audience. Powerful yet lyrical the piece employs expressive tone to haunting and thrilling effect.
