Programme notes:Scored for solo saxophone 'Eighteen' is a dynamic exploration of rhythm, energy, anglular intervals and melodic development. Notable for a sound world that also includes harmonics and false fingerings 'Eighteen' includes a quote from 'Happy Birthday' towards the end of the piece! A strong internal pulse is the key to an effective performance of 'Eighteen', the rests being as important as the notes. Pay careful attention to given dynamics and articulation, which all add to the overall shape and form of the piece. 'Funky & Hard Edged' is the initial stylistic guide, indicating that 'Eighteen' should be played with a 'take no prisoners' attitude! Andy Scott.
Performance notes:Premiered by Andy Scott at Sound Festival 2007. This piece was written for Spencer Moran, commissioned by his music teacher & family to celebrate the occasion of his 18th birthday.
